COVID-19 has brought about such a grave crisis upon us that our everyday lives have been affected significantly. Following our everyday routine like before wouldn’t be possible due to the potential risk of getting infected by the virus. Under such critical circumstances, we have to make a few changes to the way we go about our routine by including a few safety precautions that would ensure the well-being of ourselves and our loved ones.

Why should you wear a mask?

Wearing a mask is a simple yet effective measure to keep the virus from entering your body. Since the virus mainly spreads from person-to-person through the air, covering the nose and mouth with a suitable mask will help avoid its entry into the respiratory system. Make sure you use at least a 3-layered mask and cover the nose and mouth completely. Additionally, you may use a protective transparent face shield to keep the virus from landing on your face.

Clean your hands frequently.

Washing your hands with water and soap or using an alcohol-based sanitizer multiple times a day will be highly effective in killing the virus that could be present on your hands. This frequency can be relaxed when you are at home but has to be carried out more often when you’re outdoors as we are more susceptible to come in contact with the virus. If you have to cough or sneeze, do so keeping your mouth and nose covered with a tissue or your elbow. Also, when outdoors, avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes with unsanitized hands.

Physical distancing is crucial.

Although the virus is transmitted through the air, a safe distance of 6 feet or more between individuals is known to be effective in keeping it at bay. It should be on high priority if you notice anyone in close proximity to you sneezing or coughing. Try to avoid attending social gatherings, traveling by public transport, or using public restrooms/waiting areas unless absolutely necessary. The lesser the number of people you come in contact with, the lesser the chances of contracting the disease.

Get yourself tested for COVID-19.

If you have been experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms, such as cough, sneezing, fever, headaches, sore throat, body pains, lack of taste or smell, fatigue, troubled breathing, etc., do visit your healthcare provider and get tested for the disease. While experiencing these symptoms, it is advisable to isolate yourself from your loved ones to prevent its spread. Regularly disinfect the surfaces that you often touch, such as doorknobs, table surfaces, light switches, faucets, etc. Practicing safety and caution during such times is more necessary than ever.
